TROY BROOKS - VIRAGO (noun) a domineering, violent or bad tempered woman. The characters in these images are based on or inspired by myth and legend, history and popular culture. Each inhabits a world where matriarchy rules and where, it seems, men have been sinisterly disposed of. The characters are rooted in bold and brash female archetypes from towering bitch goddesses of film noir to Victorian widows, stoic royalty and the villainesses of early Disney cartoons, as well as people that have made a unique impression on me. They move through silent theatre tableaus, caught in the crux of an eerie plot.
